Summer in the City

Even though I am summering here in the city, I have been O.D ing on beauty products to get that summer glow without having to leave my bathroom!

My bête noir are my legs. They are long, they look good in jeans but, well, they are a bit lumpy! Or should I say, were a bit lumpy! I have been body brushing for a month now and honestly I am sold. I have considered taking a microphone on to Briggate to preach about my leg saviour, the humble brush! I am never going back, I have seen the light (and the smooth) and for the first time in at least a decade I am considering wearing denim shorts!

Obviously the big downside to not going away is the lack of tan! I have a history of orange palms, brown sheets, patchy knees…you get the picture! However, things have changed. My body brush has definitely helped (oooh I really do love it) but also I am loving body make-up. It goes on the colour you want it and then washes straight off. My favourite at the moment is this Protect and Bronze All
Over Body Bronzer by Trish McEvoy (£36).

And for finishing touches:
Lancome’s latest Doll Eyes mascara is perfect for creating that false eyelash look….without the fiddly bit!

And for a bit of festival chic, I am wearing Nails inc’s Festival Colours: Glastonbury and Reading. With high glitter content you get full on sparkle in just two coats. (£11 each)

Help! I need a beauty intervention

With a plethora of hen dos, weddings, birthday celebrations, sunshine and extra bank holidays I have had a debauched month (well debauched in a 32 year old kind of way…lots of champagne, sunshine, late nights and the odd (OK quite a few) Marlborough lights.

And, I’ll be honest, I look a lot older than I did in March! I was just contemplating surgery, or never leaving the house again when hey presto…the lovely people at ESPA asked me if I wanted to try their new Super Active™ Lift and Firm collection to provide the face with a visible lifting and firming boost.

Turns out I should have been using this stuff for a couple of years but as I have had acne prone skin until recently it’s been a bit tricky to work out what to do…life is hard sometimes, so many skin related decisions!

Beauty-full fashion

I bought a bright pink lipstick recently and I can honestly say it has changed my life!

Well, maybe that’s dramatic but it has definitely changed my wardrobe At the beginning of each season I pour over magazines, online shows as well as the amazing new collections that, at this time of year, come in to store on an almost daily basis.

However, over the last couple of seasons it hasn’t just been the clothes I have been taking inspiration from. The makeup now is just as much a part of the look and is also a far easier way for us mere mortals to get a catwalk look!

With this as inspiration, this month (March the 15th) we are hosting our first ever Harvey Nichols Beauty Studio. A chance for you to see whether a Jil Sander Neon lip, an Armani take on a smoky eye or even a Chloe ‘no make-up make-up’ is the look for you.

This month is all about Valentine's Day.

For as long as I can remember Valentine’s Day has been a day I have dreaded. By the 14th February I have given up on my new year’s ambition to become a size zero and I am the same old size 12 single me!

However, 2011 is going to be different, I have finally done it…nope I am still a size 12 but I have an official plus one! Not a crush, a fling or even a friend with extras, this one is a real live boyfriend, all of my own.

However, I am no smug married; I remember life on the shelf all too well (and, I have to admit, I miss bits of it) so here is my little guide to a stylish Valentines Day, whether you are all loved up, dating or fabulously single.

It's all about me...
The red lip is going to be huge again for Spring/Summer so why not treat yourself to a vampish Giorgio Armani lipstick in ROUGE D’ARMANI (£23) It’s a great way to create a bold statement in seconds, plus I have tried it and it is kissing proof…just in case!

Or, how about afternoon tea with the girls? We are doing a special Valentine’s afternoon tea on the 13 February. It is £23 a head including a glass of champagne and lots of beautiful mini sandwiches and cakes. I will be there with my girlfriends so I hope to see you there!
